Truck Accident on Poinciana Parkway Causing Serious Injury

Truck Accidents

A Nissan Altima crossed over the center line and struck a Wal-Mart semi-truck on the Poinciana Parkway in Davenport, Florida.  The accident happened at approximately 5:30 a.m. as Donald Watson was driving a semi-truck westbound on Kinney Harmon Road (Poinciana Parkway) when Montre Cray crossed over to strike the truck at the rear axle.  Cray is reported to have sustained serious injuries.  A debris field was left all over the road.

This accident may have happened either because Cray fell asleep or was distracted by something inside the car.  Cray is actually quite lucky to have struck the rear axle of the truck rather than the front of the truck.  A full head on crash would likely have not been survivable.  A semi-truck can weight upwards of 70,000 to 80,000 pounds.  The impact broke the semi-truck’s axles out of alignment.

This accident is another reminder of the dangers of distracted driving.  Far too many accidents happen because drivers are distracted.  Even though there are many “distractions” that do not amount to a traffic ticket (changing the radio station, operating GPS, or adjusting anything else while in motion), doing so is negligence and is the basis for many civil lawsuits for injuries in Florida.
