Deen Still Road Accident February 2020
News EventsTwo injuries and one fatality were reported in an accident on Deen Still Road on February 4, 2020 when a pickup truck crossed the center line, sideswiped a semi-truck, and then collided with another pickup truck as reported in The Ledger.
The driver (Justin Bowen) and a passenger (Kobe Bell) in the second pickup truck were taken to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center with injuries. The driver of the other pickup truck did not survive.
Advice For The Injured
The physical impact forces involved in this collision were clearly severe based on the photographs shown in the news media. The first “bucket” of insurance coverage available is going to no-fault benefits under Florida law. Florida requires that auto insurers withhold $5,000 for emergency room treatment for the first 30 days after an accident. Thereafter, if the $5,000 of no-fault benefits are not paid for emergency care at a hospital, then it can be paid for non-emergency follow-up care, such as for a chiropractor, MRI, or specialty consultation.
Many people are unaware that no-fault benefits in Florida are payable from your own insurance policy rather than the person who caused the accident. This is so because these benefits are paid regardless of fault. There is also a $5,000 death benefit under the Florida no-fault law.
The next “bucket” of insurance available is bodily injury liability coverage from the driver causing an accident. An injured driver might also have their own UM benefits (uninsured/underinsured motorist) on top of liability coverage.
